Fans have dubbed soul-pop singer-songwriter Melany Watson’s aesthetic as a mix of modern and classic soul with a dash of southern ambience. Melany’s musicality embraces soul, harkening back to 1990s pop-soul artists like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey with a tasteful texture reminiscent of Carole King’s writing style. A deeper dive into Melany’s craft allows the listener to feel the storyteller lineage of country music, passed on from her Houston, Texas upbringing.

Melany has backed artists Tori Kelly, The Roots, BIRDY, Alessia Cara, Marc E Bassey, Bebe Rexha, MAZ of Snarky Puppy, Lorde, and Leona Lewis, to name a few. She has performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, Live with Kelly, The View, Good Morning America, and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Melany has also had the privilege to work with musical director Adam Blackstone (Rihanna/Justin Timberlake/Nicki Minaj) and Stevvie Alexander (20 feet to Stardom/Fleetwood Mac/Barbara Streisand).

In the summer of 2015, Melany was awarded the highly coveted Abe Olman Scholarship, joining an elite group of previous winners including John Legend, Comic Heroes, Bebe Rexha and Lori McKenna. Melany’s songwriting has also been praised in the taste-making publication, American Songwriter with a plum “Daily Discovery” feature. Recently, Melany’s songwriting received another boost when her original song “Point Blank” (performed by Donna Missal) was featured on the Fox TV comedy-drama fantasy series Lucifer

Melany is currently working on her first full length album, set for release in late 2019. Produced by guitarist/producer Brad Allen Williams (Jose James, Bilal, Cory Henry), the album features music and lyrics co-written with Brad Allen Williams, Justin Stanton (Snarky Puppy), John Flanagan (Faultlines) and many more.
